The Gala opening of the Susie Sainsbury Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music consisted of a celebration of the music of Claude-Michel Schönberg performed by the Academy 2018 Musical Theatre Company and Orchestra.

Some 50 channels of Sennheiser D9000 and 16 channels of Sennheiser 5000 radio mics were used across the 37 cast members, a guest appearance from Matt Lucas (as both Thenardiers), guest speakers, onstage musicians, and the 45-piece orchestra.
